Fira is the capital of Santorini. It is located on the west side of the island, on the rocks of the caldera just opposite the volcano. Modern Fira is the cultural and commercial center of Santorini. Although geared around the tourist industry, perhaps more so than other areas on the island, there is much about Fira worth taking a look at.

Standing 324 meters tall, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognizable monuments in the world. Constructed in 1889 as the entrance arch to the World’s Fair, the tower was designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution and to show off France’s industrial might. Built by famous engineer Gustave Eiffel, and co-designed by architect Stephen Sauvestre, the tower was originally only meant to last 20 years. Fortunately, it played an important role in the the First World War as a wireless telegraph transmitter, saving it from the wrecking ball.

Today the Eiffel Tower shines bright as the architectural icon of France’s esteemed capital, landing it a spot on pretty much everyone’s bucket list. With over seven million visitors each year, it’s the most visited paid-for monument in the world. Here are our tips to make sure you make the most of your Eiffel Tower visit.
